Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary is the largest Apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church, with well over 3 million members in almost every country in the world. It has been active in the United States since 1931 and has been approved by the last six popes, and was also endorsed by the Second Vatican Council.

The Legion of Mary recently formed a praesidium (chapter) based at St. Mary Star of the Sea. The Legion exists for the personal holiness of it's members through prayer and apostolic works in union with the Blessed Mother and the Holy Spirit.

A Legionary is expected to attend a weekly meeting which consists of The Rosary, prayers and reports of weekly work assignments. The 90 minute meeting takes place in the rectory meeting room at 7.00 p.m. on Monday evenings. The two-hour work weekly assignments are always done in pairs. Currently the Legion is visiting neighboring nursing homes. The Legion also works with the Pastor in fulfilling the Apostolate mission in the parish.

New members are always welcome, and anyone interested in doing so is asked to contact the Rectory at (415) 322 1765.
